Say Something

Each Leadership Development Academy of Rock County participant works with a small group of their fellow class members to plan and execute a collaborative project that addresses a community need. These projects and their results are presented each May and serve as the program's capstone experience.

Say Something

We are partnering with local school districts throughout Rock County to help educate school administrators, parents, and students of the P3Tips anonymous reporting tools, primarily through their mobile app.

In a comprehensive study of school shootings from 1974 to 2000 conducted by the Secret Service and Department of Education, 93% of school shooters planned their attack in advance. In 4 out of 5 school shootings, at least one other person had knowledge of the attacker’s plan but failed to report it. A study found that 77% of active shooters spend a week or longer planning their attack. This data tells us that close to 100% of school shootings could be prevented. When it comes to mental health crisis 70% of people that die by suicide tell someone their plans or give some other type of warning sign.

School violence and tragedies occur too often and the need for anonymous reporting tools exist. Fortunately for many states and communities, including Rock County, solutions exist and offer students opportunities to report and prevent tragedies from occurring.

Our project will create a marketing plan for the Janesville Area Crime Stoppers Board that they can implement across Rock County. Components of this plan include designing and recording videos to showcase how to anonymously report a tip with the P3Tips app. Other components will include designing and producing toolkits for school districts to use across Rock County, which will include giveaways for students and collateral to use within the school and on social media.
